183 Sunsets Over Georgian Bay (2023.07.21 – 2023.12.21), Ontario, Canada

Inquire About Print

This solargraph, captured over Georgian Bay from the summer to winter solstice of 2023, recorded 183 sunsets in a single long-exposure image. Created with a homemade pinhole camera and light-sensitive black and white photo paper, it traced the sun’s path across the sky, interrupted by cloud cover and shaped by Earth’s orbit. The colours are the result of the paper’s chemical reactions to prolonged exposure, humidity, and temperature changes. Over days, weeks, and months, a single image was constructed, offering a perspective on space, time, and weather patterns that would otherwise remain unseen, reflecting the beauty of the cyclical rhythms of life.

The work is featured on the cover of PhotoED Magzine's Fall 2024 – The Time Issue, which also features an article about my solargraphy work inside. See the cover below.
