Fall 2024 Photography Update

Greetings, Friends and Art Enthusiasts,

I hope this message finds you well. I’m excited to share some recent developments with you and send a friendly reminder about The Bay Studio Tour this coming weekend.

The Bay Studio Tour

October 5 and 6 – 10am to 5pm, 2024

Julie and I are delighted to invite you to The Bay Studio Tour this Saturday and Sunday. It looks like we’re in for another gorgeous Georgian Bay autumn weekend—perfect for a studio visit.

This is an excellent opportunity to experience new work firsthand and discuss the stories behind each piece. In addition to other works, I’ll be showing some of my recent solargraphs, including those featured in a special publication (more details below!). Julie will be unveiling two new collections of oil paintings alongside her work in watercolours, ceramics, photography, and more.

Striped Umbrellas on a Sandy Beach, by Julie McGregor

I want to invite you to view my new collections! After a lot of thought, I've chosen two themes to work on. One is inspired by a vintage look called 'Hollywood Era Beach Scenes,' and the other is called 'Floral and Stripes.' Taking a modern approach, both series explored rhythm, lines, bold colours, and expressive brushstrokes that feel fresh yet nostalgic. I'm excited to share this new body of work with you and would love for you to join me during The Bay Studio Tour to see how these ideas have come together.

Tradition Transformed – Annual Juried Landscape Exhibition

Orillia Museum of Art & History

October 26, 2024 to January 18, 2025

Opening Reception: Saturday October 26 from 1-3 pm

I will be participating in the upcoming Tradition Transformedexhibition at the Orillia Museum of Art and History, running from October 26, 2024, to January 18, 2025. The exhibit will highlight contemporary interpretations of traditional art forms, and I’m proud to be showing a special, limited edition 48-inch print of my solargraph, “183 Sunsets Over Georgian Bay,” the very same piece featured on the cover of PhotoEd Magazine.

If you’re in the area, I’d love for you to visit and experience the work in person!

About the show:

Our vast and varied landscape is as unique and diverse as the Canadians who inhabit it. The beauty of our landscape can be a source of national pride, but our land is also going through many challenges such as climate change, land claims, and loss of natural habitats. Tradition Transformed asks the question, what does the Canadian landscape mean to you.

This annual juried exhibition was created in recognition of landscape artist and
Group of Seven member, Franklin Carmichael, who was born in Orillia. Now in its 22nd year, this juried exhibition calls on artists from across the country to submit work that reimagines the Canadian landscape through the artist’s chosen medium, including but not limited to drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and media arts.
